2009 Crown Oaks Day
The Crown Oaks Day is the third
day of the Melbourne Cup Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington. Aside from
the exciting racing that takes place on the track, Oaks day has long been
renowned as Ladies Day. The Fashions on the Field competition that takes
place each year is now extremely popular with racegoers and brings out
the best in Ladies fashion.
The 'Oaks' were first run in 1861 and despite
being held on a work day, Crown Oaks Day has become one of the more popular
crowd events on the Australian Horse Racing Calendar.
The feature race of the day is the Group 1 Crown Oaks for three year old
fillies. The race is run over 2500m and now offers over $750,000 in prize
money.
