Our Pick

The Victoria Derby is regarded as Australia’s premier staying event for 3-year-olds. It is the feature event on what is the first day of the Flemington Carnival. My selection to win the Melbourne Cup this year, won this race last year, Monaco Consul.

The race has a very prestigious history dating back to 1855, and was upgraded to Group 1 status in 1979 and it is Australia’s oldest classic. The race has been dominated by males and the odds see Rekindled Interest betting 3-1, Retrieve at 4-1 and Kudakulari at 23-1.

Damien Oliver is the current leading jockey with 3 wins. With the form that both Cummings and Oliver have so far this Spring Carnival, you’d be mad to discount them in this year’s race.

Betting will be open this year, but I would expect to see the odds of Lion Tamer shorten quite a lot before the jump from 12-1 so perhaps that is the pick to beat the favorite this year. What ever the out come perhaps you could back all of them for next years Melbourne Cup now at big odds?

So you think it's her turn to win again?

Gai Waterhouse has won this race every second year since 2004 so guess what? It’s her turn again but there is a problem, or So You’d Think?  Descarado won the Caulfield Cup at big odds and was left alone in betting. So you think you have got the winner of this one? Are you sure? Betting short odds won’t send you broke if they keep winning, so you think it is easy to pick the winner? Ginga Dude at odds of 15-1 for all the Julia Roberts fans. Descarado is betting 15-1 for betfair punters. And what about Faint Perfume at odds of 40-1 for those at home with a TV pointed towards the bathroom? So you think you can pick which one will win?

Open as Usual

We all saw what Herculian Prince did in the wet last run and it was amazing. The odds do not reflect the horses chances in this though and 7-1 is way under. There is no way he can repeat the dose! Shocking looks to have avoided the winner of the Melbourne Cup , So You Think, who will also most likely win the Cox Plate, and it seems the owners are thinking the Caulfield Cup is a nice prize anyway. At betting odds of 5-1 he is a great chance to win if he can get through the field at the right time. The winner is obvious isn’t it? Monaco Consul at odds of 21-1. Take the horse each way, to win, quinellas, upside down, inside out, what ever bet you can lay your hands on! A super Cup this year and it should be a lot of fun for punters. I expect the first four might pay very large dividends.

2010 Chelsmford Stakes Horseracing Betting Odds

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

The Chelmsford Stakes will see Metal Bender as a solid favorite and the horse is my pick for a Melbourne Cup betting victory. The only other horseracing betting that could make the job difficult is Purple given the conditions are going to require umbrellas and blinkers! Odds on there will be something pop up in the placings like Get Up Jude or Run for Nara at huge odds. It is a Group 2 race for 3-year olds at weight for age conditions and is a crucial race during the spring racing carnival as successful horses will go on to compete in the G1 Cox Plate or G1 George Main Stakes.  For a view on how to place a solid trifecta bet, watch the sport bets video tip.

Geelong Premiership Winners in 2009

Geelong Premiership Winners in 2009

It’s been a great week for the Cats supporters in Geelong after Saturday’s Premiership win against St.Kilda in the 2009 AFL Premiership. The biggest single bet placed for Geelong was written in the newspapers at $177,000 compared to $10,000 for St Kilda. Not surprising for the Melbournian punters sure love their footy.
