North Melbourne’s Jack Ziebell was one of the favourites for last year’s NAB Rising Star award before suffering a season-ending leg injury against Adelaide in round 12.
The highly-regarded midfielder, who signed a new three-year deal with the Kangaroos last month, is effective in contested situations and uses the football well. Ziebell’s 10 games last season will hold him in good stead for this year.

Nic Naitanui showed glimpses of his freakish talents in his ten games last season after being taken with pick two in the 2008 national draft. The spring-heeled ruckman will be even better this year after another summer of learning the art of rucking. When not relieving Dean Cox in the ruck the 19-year-old will push forward and create all sorts of headaches for the opposition.
The giant Fijian is a deserved NAB Rising Star odds favourite as he has the ability to win games of his own boot – highlighted by his three-goal last quarter performance against Hawthorn in round 13 last season.
