The Fashionable Crown Oaks Day (used to be the VRC Oaks before all things Melbourne became Crown focused) is a wonderful event for the ladies. It’s always on the 3rd day of the Melbourne Cup.
The tradition of Oaks Day as Ladies’ Day goes back to 1885! Now it is a big fashion date on the Melbourne calendar with millions spent ea

Jean Shrimpton - Derby Day Scandal 1965
Being born and schooled in Melbourne, it’s steeped in tradition to the point where it gets under your skin. So when I heard about the “Miniskirt affair ” at the 1965 Derby Day I did laugh!
British model Jean Shrimpton, caused a scandal on Derby Day

bywearing a white miniskirt with a hemline four inches above the knee. So this became known as the “Miniskirt Affair” and inspired young women around the country to take up the new fashion. Although Jennifer Hawkins was probably not born yet, its great to see the tradition of Derby Day upheld by famous Australian models.

Geelong Premiership Winners in 2009
It’s been a great week for the Cats supporters in Geelong after Saturday’s Premiership win against St.Kilda in the 2009 AFL Premiership. The biggest single bet placed for Geelong was written in the newspapers at $177,000 compared to $10,000 for St Kilda. Not surprising for the Melbournian punters sure love their footy.

Media Puzzle won Geelong Cup in 2002 and Melbourne Cup 2002
The Geelong Cup is run over 2400 metres and is considered a great proxy for horses going into the Melbourne Cup. Media Puzzle won the Geelong Cup in 2002 with Damien Oliver on board and went on to win the Melbourne Cup in the same year.
Who can forget Damien raising his hand to the sky in salute of his brother who died tragically from a race fall in Perth in the same year.

Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse
Turnbull Stakes Day is always a wonderful day at Flemington as not only the fillies who run down the famous straight come out to please the crowd. Turnbull Stakes is a favourite day for both the ladies fashion and the horses.
Horsebetting Tips for the Turnbull Stakes
Flemington’s 1200 metre straight allows horses to come from behind to win. So be sure to check for horses who are strong finishes in the last 2-3 furlongs (400 to 600 metres) and get the latest racing odds at www.sportbets.com.au

Yalumba Stakes 2009
Many horses who run in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse use it as a preparation for the Yalumba Stakes – run 3 weeks later. Those horses who don’t perform in the Underwood Stakes often go to the Toorak Handicap.
If you’re looking for a Yalumba Stakes horsebetting tip, remember that Whobegotyou lost narrowly to Heart Of Dreams who is on track for the Cox Plate.
HorseBetting Tip for Yalumba Stakes
Remember the Yalumba is run over 2,000 metres and those horses who won’t run in the Cox Plate often run well here

Turffontein wins Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes
The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes was won this year by Turffontein, trained by Anthony Cummings and ridded by Glen Boss. Turffontein won by three-quarters of a length from Stickpin ($41) and favourite Raffaello ($5.00). The second favourite Gold Salute reared up in the barriers and got his leg caught while in the gate next door Estee, trained by Lee Freedman, did not get a clean start. Stewards ruled both gallopers non-runners. Orange County won the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in 2008 and Bon Hoffa in 2007. The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is always a great lead up to the Toorak Handicap.
For those who don’t know Turffontein Racecourse is a race track in South Africa and host to the Group One South African Derby and November’s Summer Cup.

- Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo Racecourse
We’ll be watching closey how Niconero fairs in this wonderful ‘grand slam’ of horse racing! You’ll find plenty of multibet options for horseracing at Sportbets.com.au.

Arrowfield Stud Flight Stakes
Check out the latest race gossip for Femina Fashion – who is tipped to run very well in the 2009 Flight Stakes at Randwick. Last year, we watched in awe as Samantha Miss won the 2008 Crown Oaks and now the attention is on whether Samantha Miss can win easily at Royal Randwick.
Samantha Miss won very nicely this year in the Champagne Stakes earlier this year and won handsomely in the Silver Shadow Stakes, Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes.
HorseBetting Tips for 2009 Flight Stakes
Whilst the money will go to Samantha Miss who will be short priced in the Group One $400,000 Arrowfield Stud Flight Stakes (1600m), we aren’t quite sure. She is up in class and with so many wins this year, the odds of horseracing are stacked against her. That’s just racing my friends
